Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Characteristics of Highly Heterogeneous Rock Mechanical Responses in Tight Sandy Conglomerate Reservoir Rock Under Tri-axial Compression

چکیده
Due to the use of horizontal wells and hydraulic fracturing, commercial tight oil production from some sandy conglomerate reservoirs has been achieved. Since widely distributed gravels in matrix reservoir rocks are harder than matrix, rock mechanical response conglomerates under compression is highly heterogeneous. This increases complexity understanding fracturing behaviors reservoirs. Previous tri-axial tests provided stress-strain relationships samples as a whole, stress strain were not investigated due limitation test lab. study presents results for sample cored that economically developed. Lab then used calibrate numerical model simulation process. Numerical indicate elastic modulus size have significant impacts on axial stresses strains conglomerate. Stress concentrations observed heterogeneous properties The reorientation maximum principal quantified mechanisms interaction types between fractures embedded matrix.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Rock Dynamic Fracture
Rapid development of engineering activities expands through a variety of rock engineering processes such as drilling, blasting, mining and mineral processing. These activities require rock dynamic fracture mechanics method to characterize the rock behavior. Dynamic fracture toughness is an important parameter for the analysis of engineering structures under dynamic loading. Several experimental...
متن کاملNumerical Investigation of Effect of Rock Bolt Angle on Shear Behavior of Rock Bridges
In this work, the effect of rock bolt angle on the shear behavior of Rock Bridges is investigated using the particle flow code in two dimensions (PFC2D) for three different Rock Bridge lengths. Firstly, the calibration of PF2D is performed to reproduce the gypsum sample. Then the numerical models with the dimensions of 100 mm * 100 mm are prepared. The Rock Bridge is created in the middle of th...
متن کاملAn Evaluation of Rock Integrity and Fault Reactivation in the Cap Rock and Reservoir Rock Due to Pressure Variations
Cap rocks are dams which can prevent the upward movement of hydrocarbons. They have disparities and weaknesses including discontinuities, crushed areas, and faults. Gas injection is an effective mechanism for oil recovery and pore pressure. With increasing pore pressure, normal stress is reduced, and the integrity of impermeable boundaries (cap rock, fault, etc.) becomes instable. A successful ...

This research deals with axial and oblique impact crash tests on simple and hybrid composite tubes. Axial and oblique impact tests have been generated on simple and hybrid composite tubes with one, two and three layers. A drop test rig was used to conduct the experiments. Furthermore, in order to gain more detailed knowledge about the crash process, finite element simulations of the experim...
متن کاملPetrographic Characteristics and Fluid Inclusion Study of Carbonate Cements in Permian-Triassic Rock Sequence of Southern Iran: an Implication of Rock-fluid Interactions in Carbonate Reservoir Rocks
The study of the carbonate cements in the Permian-Triassic Dalan-Kangan formations resulted in the identification of five stages of calcite and dolomite cementation, which completely or partially occluded pores. Cement types appear to be early isopachous calcite (i; C1-non-luminescence), equant (ii; C2-dull CL), fairly coarse secondary dolomite rhombs (iii; C3-zoning red CL), coarse sparry calc...
